On the Season 6 finale of The Kardashians, emotional dreams stir up old wounds as Kim and Khloé remember their father, Robert Kardashian Sr., and subtly address their complicated history with his last wife.
The Kardashian sisters are no strangers to revisiting the past, but the Season 6 finale of The Kardashians took a more personal turn as Kim and Khloé Kardashian opened up about recurring dreams involving their late father, Robert Kardashian Sr. The beloved attorney — known both for his legal legacy and as a devoted father to Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, and Rob — died in 2003 at age 59 from esophageal cancer.
During the heartfelt episode, Kim, 44, shared that she had a vivid dream about their father the night before, one in which he was still alive, living in Los Angeles — but hiding from the family while living “with Ellen.”
“Ew,” Khloé responded immediately, a reaction that hinted at long-standing tension with Robert Sr.’s widow, Ellen Pierson, whom he married shortly before his death.
A Relationship Still Marked by Strain
Though the subject wasn’t deeply explored during the episode, the mere mention of Pierson — whom Kim clarified was “his wife” when a producer mistakenly thought she was referring to Ellen DeGeneres — triggered visible discomfort.
“That would’ve been the dream,” Kim quipped, laughing, making it clear the real-life Ellen in question was far from a comforting memory.
The family’s fraught history with Pierson stretches back more than a decade. In 2013, she sued the Kardashian family for defamation, naming not only Kim, Khloé, Kourtney, Rob, and Kris Jenner in the lawsuit, but also Keeping Up with the Kardashians producer Ryan Seacrest. According to TMZ, Pierson claimed she was portrayed negatively on the family’s E! reality series and accused Kris of being a “manipulative and devious” ex-wife who exploited her children for fame.
Khloé later countered Pierson’s claims, arguing that their father was not in a mentally sound state during his final days battling cancer and that Pierson’s decision to marry him during that vulnerable period was highly questionable. The defamation case was eventually dismissed in May 2014.

Dreams That Keep Him Close
Despite the complicated dynamics, Kim and Khloé spoke warmly about how frequently they both dream of their father.
“I have dreams that he’s alive all the time,” Khloé shared, echoing Kim’s own experiences.
These dreams often stir deep emotions and memories for the sisters, who remain deeply connected to their father’s legacy. In February, Kim posted a birthday tribute to Robert Sr. on Instagram, writing, “Please come visit me in a dream soon,” a sentiment that feels even more poignant in light of the episode.
A Complicated Family History
Robert Kardashian Sr. was previously married to Kris Jenner, the matriarch of the Kardashian-Jenner empire, from 1978 to 1991. Together, they had four children and were at the center of early tabloid culture. Following their divorce, Robert briefly married Jan Ashley in 1998 before tying the knot with Ellen Pierson in 2003 — just weeks before his passing.

In a 2023 episode of The Kardashians, Kris opened up to Khloé about her “biggest regret” — having an affair with soccer player-turned-animator Todd Waterman in 1989, which contributed to the end of her marriage to Robert.
“He was such a great husband and such a great dad,” Kris confessed tearfully. “I thought the grass was greener somewhere else, and I made a huge mistake.”
Moving Forward, But Not Forgetting
While the Kardashian family continues to evolve publicly and personally, their deep love and reverence for Robert Sr. remains a grounding force — even as it brings up painful memories and complicated relationships. The latest episode underscores how the past, no matter how distant, continues to shape their present.
And for Kim and Khloé, even their dreams can’t escape the echoes of old wounds.
